Enhanced ectoines production by carbon dioxide capture: A step further towards circular economy

Recycling of greenhouse gases to produce industrially valuable products has become one the big pillars achieve circularity. This study demonstrates for first time feasibility producing ectoine with Halomonas stevensii CO 2 as added carbon source, and glucose . Initially, alone was fed continuous reactors, adding thiosulphate energy source. Maximum elimination capacities 24.2 mg L ?1 h were obtained, contents up 7.3% (g ectoine?g biomass ). To enhance production, conversion coupled discontinuous addition implemented. The amendment 0.5 g at beginning reactor operation enhanced removal 37.1 increased 22%.
